Grace School of Church Music, a ministry of Grace Community Baptist Church, began in June of 1995, the same year that the church was established. The purpose of the music school is to train students in church music so that they can use their musical ability in serving their churches for the glory and honour of God.

Interested students can learn the violin, piano or guitar for a more than reasonable fee. Classes in these three instruments are held every Tuesday and Friday evening, from 5 p.m. onwards, on a ‘first-come, first-serve’ basis. Students are trained in the universal rudiments of western classical music, which is the basis on which we teach church music. Students making sufficient progress are prepared to appear for exams conducted by the ABRSM, London.

We do not teach genres such as film music, rock or any other modern genre that is so subtly creeping into the praise and worship scene of many churches today. Yes, music must be uplifting - no doubt! But at the same time, we believe that the sanctity and sacredness of church music must be preserved and not diluted to stay in sync with the ever changing music trends of the world. Even in praise and worship, there is a thin but indelible line that divides the sacred from the profane.

It does not matter which church a student attends, but we lay emphasis on their talents and skills being used for musical activity in their church, especially when a students has gained sufficient musical knowledge and confidence to play in church. We believe that it is God the Creator, who bestows upon his children various talents in different capacities and it is our duty to return thanks to Him by using our talents for His praise. Further, it is not self glorification that we seek, but we believe that to God must go all the glory. Over our thirteen years of existence, there have been students who have fulfilled the purpose of the music school and do indeed use what they have learnt here, at their respective churches. However, there is far more potential among the members of various churches. So we urge you to make use of this opportunity.
